Thank you for your business and a big Allegro smooch to anyone confined to bed. Get well soon.
I remember my mom and dad dumping buckets of water into the big humidifier in our living room each winter in Nebraska. I loved the warm moist mist that steamed from it, making the hot dry air pumped out by the furnace a little easier to breathe. I never really thought about it until I moved out of the house and started missing that “moist air feeling” in my own home. I’ve had a humidifier ever since.
The air in your house in the winter, no matter how temperate the climate, can get very dry. It happens right about when the heater starts clicking on. That’s when the humidifier comes out. Experts say that you should keep the indoor relative humidity (water vapor in the air) at between 35% and 55%. Get a hygrometer to easily test your humidity levels. It works like a thermometer.
Why Do You Need a Humidifier?
* Your Health: Low humidity dries your skin, causes nasal situations and makes your eyes itchy. Humidifiers keep your skin moisturized, help relieve cold and flu symptoms and can relieve asthma symptoms (check with your doc first). The American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as other medical organizations, recommend the use of humidifiers and vaporizers for treating upper respiratory infections. Proper humidity levels year round will help you avoid colds, bloody noses and sinus problems.
* Lower Utility Costs: You will feel warmer at a lower temperature so you can turn your thermostat down a couple degrees in the winter.
* Your Furniture, Art and Instruments: Dry air can ruin your wood floors, wood furniture, piano, guitar and artwork.
* Your Electronics: Dry air causes static electricity. Sometimes funny, sometimes just a pain, but these “zaps” can wipe out computers and electronics.

If you are caring for someone with incontinence issues, we understand how difficult it can be to know which adult incontinence products to choose for each situation. This buyers guide, provided by our friends at TENA, can be used by caregivers to understand each type of adult incontinence product and how they work best.
Caregivers Guide to Incontinence Products
Description: Protective underwear are full fitted briefs that pull on and take the place of regular undergarments.
- People unable to manage their own incontinence
- People who are ambulatory or able to bear weight
- Bowel and bladder incontinence
Not so good for: Changing in bed
Description: Pads are designed to fit inside regular underwear to absorb accidental leakage. May have adhesive strip to adhere to undergarment.
Best for: Added absorbency inside regular undergarments or inside pull up briefs. This limits embarrassment when accidents occur.
Not so good for:
- Complete bladder incontinence
- Bowel incontinence
Description: Sized between a pad insert and a full brief, these are designed to replace regular undergarments. An elastic band with buttons or other type of attachment device connects to button holes in the brief.
- Occasional accidents
- Changing in bed
- Frequent changes without having to remove all clothing
Not so good for:
- Bowel incontinence
- Quick changes
Description: Looks much like a diaper, also known as Adult Briefs. Tape tabs adhere on each side to secure the garment around the individual.
- Use instead of regular undergarments
- Bowel incontinence
- Changing in bed
Not so good for: Changing when standing
Overnight Pads and Adult Nigthtime Diapers:
Description: These may be in the form of fitted brief or taped brief, but have added absorbency to reduce changes and leakage through the night. Most are also designed to wick moisture away from the skin to prevent skin breakdown.
- Overnight use when getting up or changing is not possible
- Use instead of regular undergarments for someone difficult to change or transfer
- For someone who is bedridden
Not so good for: Someone who may get frustrated and pull the garment off and/or apart. (There may be little absorbency balls in the garment that spread if the cloth is ripped.)
Reusable Chair and Bed Pads: Washable pads with a water repellent fabric on one side and absorption layers on the other side.
- Placing on seats and furniture to protect against leakage
- Placing underneath a person in bed to protect mattress against leakage.
- Use as a draw sheet to move someone in bed
Not so good for:
- Use when leakage occurs frequently unless extras are readily available
- Use when laundry is not able to be done frequently
Disposable Chair and Bed Underpads: Often referred to as Chux pads – these are designed with a plastic backing on one side and absorbency layers on the other side.
- Placing on car seats and furniture to protect against leakage
- Placing underneath a person in bed to protect mattress against leaking
Not so good for:
- The environment
- Using as a draw sheet to move someone in bed

Thinking about moving to Arizona to avoid nasal allergies? Think again, my friend. Allergens are everywhere. Pollen, dust, animal dander, mold – all seemingly harmless until your body mistakes them for something sinister, like bacteria or a virus. Next thing you know, bam! You’re a red-eyed sneeze monster.
Many people have seasonal allergic reactions to airborne pollens, grass and weeds. If you’re really unlucky, you’re stuck managing year-round with indoor allergens like animal dander, dust mites and mold.
You don’t have to suffer! Most people with typical allergies manage with Over-the-Counter (OTC) medicine. There are plenty of affordable generic allergy products, with the same active ingredients as the name brands. They can reduce or eliminate the allergic response and help you get through the seasons with minimal discomfort.

Humidifiers – Humidifiers are great in certain climates, for every day use. They come in sizes small enough for your office, bedroom or entire house! Some cool, some warm. All great! Some of them have built-in ionizers that clean the air as well.

Snoring Treatments – Anti-snore devices can be an easy solution to endless nights of disruptive sleep, but not every product works for every person. We see that by the individual reviews. They either work or they don’t depending on how you sleep, your size, the size of your mouth, teeth… it goes on. The alternatives to these low cost devices, however, can be even more daunting than trying them out.
